Maria stared down at the earth. Seven and half billion people lived down there. Most of them believed they were shaping their own destiny in a game that had been fixed since the dawn of history. She turned from the window, paced to the middle of the room, and turned to face Inanna. “Why me?”

Inanna smiled as warmly as Maria had ever seen her smile. “The hero always wonders that, Maria. You see the hero finds nothing special in what she does. She thinks she is just like everyone else. Only she isn’t. The hero has traveled beyond the horizon and back with vital information for the tribe. This is always the moment of decision for the hero. Do I share what I have learned or do I keep it to myself?”

“And where do you stand on the question, Inanna?”

“Maria, hundreds of thousands of earth years ago, I was you. I had a choice whether to know what I knew about humanity, and remain silent – support the dictates of my father and my brother – to or do something about it. I decided that I could not allow a sentient species be treated as a pawn and I made my choice. It meant turning my back on my world and my position within the Anunnaki elite. That doesn’t make me a saint, but it allows me to live with my role in this universe.”

“So, help me make the right choice, Inanna.”

“The days of someone else making the decisions for you – for humanity – are at an end, Maria.”

“I hope I’m ready.”

“Trust me, Maria. Ready you are!”
